Action Alert

From time to time, AFP-Oregon will ask its Members to contact their Legislators, City Councilors, County Commissioners or other elected officials and urge them to vote a certain way, adopt a principle or viewpoint, or take some other action.  Elected officials know that they must respond to their constituents or risk being voted out at the next election.  One of the most important actions an AFP Member can take is to contact their Legislator, School Board Member or other representative to let them know what they think.

AFP will send out specific requests asking you to comment on proposed legislation which we call "Action Alerts."  This system sends a pre-written email to your Legislators and also allows you to add your own thoughts.  You then need only enter a Confirmation Code and the messages to your Legislators will be sent automatically.  When you receive these requests, please make a habit of completing the Action Alert to show that the grassroots is paying attention, and is powerful.

AFP Action Alerts are of course, in addition to other contacts you should be making with your federal, state and local elected officials.  There is no substitute for personal contact with elected officials when it comes to influencing their thinking.  Be sure to attend a local AFP Chapter meeting to learn and practice skills that will help you discuss issues with elected officials.
